Salesforce CPQ allows you to personalize your product offerings by using Attributes. In this guide, we’ll walk through how to create and assign attributes to a product — using a Coffee
Machine as our example.

Step 1: Create the Attribute Picklist

Let’s begin by creating a picklist attribute called Machine Size for the Coffee Machine product.

Navigate to Attribute Picklists

  1. Go to App Launcher
  2. Open Product Catalog Management
  3. Select Attribute Picklists → Click New

Fill in the Details:

  • Name: Machine Size
  • Status: Active
  • Data Type: Text

 Step 2: Add Picklist Values

We will now add three options for the machine size:

  • Machine High
  • Machine Medium
  • Machine Low

To Add Values:

  1. In the related list of your Machine Size attribute picklist, click New on the Attribute Picklist Values.

Add the following:

  • Value: Machine High
  • Display Value: Machine High
  • Sequence: 1
  • Status: Active

Repeat the same process for:

  • Machine Medium (Sequence: 2)
  • Machine Low (Sequence: 3)

 

 

Step 3: Create Attribute Definition

Now that we have a picklist, let’s define it as an attribute.

To Create an Attribute Definition:

  1. Go to App Launcher → Product Catalog Management
  2. Open Attribute Definitions → Click New

  3.  Fill in the following:

    • Name: Machine Size
    • Data Type: Picklist
    • Status: Active
    • Check the Active box

    Link the Picklist:

    In the attribute definition record, select the Machine Size picklist in the lookup field.

    Step 4: Create Product Classification

    Attributes are grouped under Product Classifications before linking to a product.

    To Create a Product Classification:

    1. Go to App Launcher → Product Catalog Management
    2. Click Product Classification → New

    Fill in:

    • Name: Coffee Machine
    • Status: Active

    Save the record.

     

     

     

     

     

     

 Assign Attribute to Classification:

In the related list of Attributes, click New and assign the Machine Size attribute.

 Step 5: Assign Classification to Product

Let’s now link the Coffee Machine
product to the newly created classification.

  1. Go to Product Catalog Management
  2. Open Products → Select Coffee Machine
  3. In the Based On field, choose Coffee Machine (Product
    Classification)

Click Save.

 Step 6: Test Configuration in Catalog

To verify everything is working as expected:

  1. Go to Browse Catalog
  2. Find the Coffee Machine product
  3. Click Configure on the quote line dropdown

You should now see the Machine Size attribute available for selection.
